Bystander Intervention

"Throughout history, it has been the inaction of those who could have acted; the indifference of those who should have known better; the silence of the voice of justice when it mattered most; that has made it possible for evil to triumph." -Haile Selassie

The basic idea here is that you ARE A PART OF THE SOLUTION.   Each of us are bystanders every day, in one way or another, and our words and actions have a significant impact upon our community. There are between 12 and 33 times someone can intervene in a situation that presents a possible danger or threat to another person. Being part of Bystander Intervention is the biggest way you can be EKU-SAFE.

How can you be a good bystander?

There are literally hundreds of little comments, harassments, and other forms of abuse that lead up to what we think of as the sexually violent act. In reality, we witness situations in which someone makes an inappropriate sexual comment or perpetrates sexual harassment every day.

EKU-SAFE offers a bystander Intervention training. Request training for your group, class, or organization to gain skills to become an effective bystander and contribute to reducing crime on campus.

"The world is a dangerous place to live, not because of the people who are evil, but because of the people who don't do anything about it." -Albert Einstein
